• Free Movie Tickets for the unemployed and under employed from Center Theatre
  The Center Theatre, in cooperation with Penquis, is going to begin offering free movies to members of the community who have lost their jobs. The Theatre, which recently began offering movie passes for sale to the general public, also wanted to make them available to those who might not be able to afford to see a movie. “We especially want children and families to benefit from this program,” said Alan Bray a Theatre Board member who has been instrumental in getting the program off the ground. “Many of our movies are oriented towards families and we know that with times being so difficult being able to go see a movie could help, at least help for a couple hours.” The passes will be good for 5 movie admissions at the Center Theatre and participants may request additional passes after they are used. The program will begin in early May and continue through the summer. Penquis will distribute the passes as part of their efforts to help those who have lost their jobs. Please contact the Dover-Foxcroft office Penquis on 50 North Street or call 564-7116. The office is open Monday though Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They will have a limited number of movie passes to give away each month.

  Adventure Girls meets every other Saturday for 2-3 hours of adventurous, hands-on, educational activities; Adventures will be held from approximately 1 pm – 3 pm on Saturday afternoons; Adventures are FREE thanks to a grant from the National Science Foundation; Parents and guardians are welcomed and encouraged to participate with their daughters; and Groups and Girl Scout troops are welcomed at all events! Registration does not necessarily guarantee that all families will receive school supplies, as all supplies for this project are donated. You will be notified by telephone within the week of August 10th - August 14th whether your family will receive supplies.   You are not alone if you are facing tough times in Piscataquis County. If you need assistance, there may be programs and services available to you Penquis’ mission is to assist individuals and families in preventing, reducing or eliminating poverty in their lives. Through collaboration and regional partnerships, Penquis addresses issues such as economic and social needs, unemployment and underemployment. One such collaborative effort is the Piscataquis Resource Exchange, a network of service providers who meet monthly to share information regarding new and existing programs. The goal is to increase awareness and use of community resources.
