Dover-Foxcroft - Penquis’ mission is to assist individuals and families in preventing, reducing or
eliminating poverty in their lives. Through collaboration and regional partnerships, Penquis
addresses issues such as economic and social needs, unemployment and underemployment. One such
collaborative effort is the Piscataquis Resource Exchange, a network of service providers who meet
monthly to share information regarding new and existing programs. The goal is to increase awareness
and use of community resources.
Another cooperative effort, this one between Center Theatre and Penquis, is providing free movie
tickets to children and families affected by job loss in Piscataquis County. Assisting with the
issue of job loss is the Piscataquis County Transition Team. The Team, a collection of community,
governmental, and educational organizations, is hosting a weekly series called “Morning Matters”
which offers free workshops and networking opportunities. These are held each Thursday in the town
meeting room at the Morton Avenue Complex in Dover-Foxcroft. Additional information about these
events can be found at www.piscataquisresources.org. Other related services located at the Complex
include the Maine Career Center, Piscataquis Valley Adult Education Cooperative, Training and
Development Corporation, and, for residents of Dover-Foxcroft, General Assistance. Residents of
other towns may call their town office to inquire about General Assistance programs.
